The Bridge to Arkansas
Well, I’m in much better spirits today than I was yesterday. Although there’s still a day and a half left of driving, I’m feeling great about the progress I’ve made so far. I’ve driven about 1400 miles in three days. I think that’s something to be happy about. I did run into a little bit of trouble in Nashville when the entire line of cars ahead of me stopped nearly instantaniously, but I managed to avoid an accident.
Today’s drive ended up right at 500 miles. I started at about 8:15am and I think I finished up around 5:30. I’m staying at a Holiday Inn (definitely reccommended) in Russellville, Arkansas. It’s a great little town. Everyone here is quite friendly. I got a glass of wine at the bar in the hotel and the bartender was actually from Maine. Funny how that works out, huh? One strange thing, though, is that this is apparently a dry county and you have to have a membership at every bar that you go to. It only cost me about 2 dollars, though, so it was worth it. Plus, I got a niftly little card as a souvenier.
My next stop will hopefully be Amarillo, Texas, which is about 520 miles from here. Either way I should be in New Mexico by Friday, which will be nice. I’m really looking forward to seeing my family there and to doing some sightseeing.
note:
One thing I wanted to mention is that all of the photos on the blog here link to a larger version of the photo on Flickr. From there you can see all of the photos I’ve taken so far. Have fun!
